The Recruiter Network is part of Economic Development Foundation’s Find the Good Life in North Dakota Initiative (FTGL). The goal is to target out-of-state job seekers in attempt to invite them to North Dakota to fill needed positions available within every sector of business while improving the nation’s image of North Dakota.
Attracting people to North Dakota aligns with the FTGL initiative. The benefits of FTGL will be a permanent, skilled workforce that will ultimately lead to continued economic growth and prosperity for the state. Additional benefits include:
The ability to attract and maintain employees will allow businesses to meet their current workforce needs and grow.
A permanent workforce will help businesses operate more efficiently.
New permanent residents will help communities support their growing infrastructures.
A larger population and workforce will attract more service, retail, entertainment and recreational businesses to the state. This will improve quality of life for North Dakotans and attract more visitors to North Dakota.
As the opportunities available to North Dakota residents become clear, more North Dakota students will stay in North Dakota.
Through partnership and education, we have created a Recruiter Network, which would allow collaboration among businesses and recruiters to connect people to career opportunities while serving as a resource network.
Goals of the Recruiter Network
Commerce held an employer focus group meeting in September to determine the needs and goals of a network. We also conducted an intake survey with the focus group members. The survey results and the meeting’s discussion identified three major goals:
- Share best practices
- Help attract people to North Dakota
- Sounding board for retention/hiring issues
With these three goals in mind, we’ve set a preliminary slate of deliverables including a series of quarterly meetings and an annual event to network with other experts who understand recruitment/retention issues. During these meetings, members will receive information on ND hiring events and the upcoming FTGL Events including the opportunity to send a list of available positions or attend events in tandem with the FTGL initiative. The agenda will include a best practices sharing piece/education aspect such as company information sharing, reading military resumes or retention plans. Outside of meetings, we’ve create a virtual space for resume sharing and distribution and an out-of-state WARN notice outreach program. Cost to join the network is a commitment of $1000. Members will have immediate information and input on these programs as well as access to other community engagement pieces that are currently in the works.
